Sales of Compact Fluorescent Lights Leap to 20% of the Market

Sales of Energy Star-qualified compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) nearly doubled last year, according to the estimates of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In 2007, 290 million CFLs were sold, and the energy-saving bulbs now account for about 20% of the light bulb market in the United States. Energy Star-qualified CFLs use approximately 75% less energy and last up to 10 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs.

HydroPak Portable Fuel Cell Power Pack

The HydroPak product combines Horizon's fuel cells with Millennium Cell's Hydrogen on Demand storage technology to offer a clean and quiet power generator for use by consumers and professionals for emergency and recreational purposes.

Saharan Dust Cools the Ocean - Prevents Hurricanes

NASA satellites have provided evidence that the chilling effect of dust was responsible for one-third of the drop in North Atlantic sea surface temperatures between June 2005 and 2006, possibly contributing to the difference in hurricane activity between the two seasons.

Top Ten Green Cities in the United States

The EarthLab foundation has released a list of the top 10 greenest cities in the United States. The list is compiled from over 1 million end users that calculated their carbon footprint on the Eathlab website. Leading the country are the residents of Chicago, IL, followed closely by New York, NY and Boston.

Book, newspaper and magazine creation and distribution is a high energy consumption and resource consuming process. The Kindle is the 'green' answer to the current energy inefficient process of book distribution.

Verizon Wireless took the lead by becoming the first wireless service provider in the nation to collect and recycle old wireless phones and is offering several tips on how to "go green" while saving money, the environment - and quite possibly, someone's life.

The Field Museum in Chicago is launching "Take 1 Step" in early October.  This innovative, voluntary program is the first in the country that allows museum visitors to purchase credits that will offset the carbon emissions they generate by traveling to the museum.
